Looking forward to the next batch of videos. It would have been a shame to see Maria or Rob get voted “off the island” because of video issues. Hopefully they’ll come back strong and become solid contenders.

I promise the next video will be shorter! I need a time restriction too.

This round is a 6 minute round, make sure it is not 6:01.

    Hala-peeno, hala-peeno, hala-peeno…..

Note to the contestants – last year we learned that the first challenge video is a “test” run to what you are really capable of accomplishing in this competition. That being said, I tried not to focus too much on the video itself in this round and concentrate more on the CREATIVITY of your recipes. Now you have seen what the others are doing!(At least from my perspective), I want to see tighter videos from now on, and recipes that go a little further “outside the box”. Good first run, go for it….

I can not agree more with Thomas. This is not a video contest, but a COOKING contest. Does it help that the video is clean, absolutely. but I want to see some cooking, not just a the raw product and then boom someone tasting it.

Here is where I am coming from; almost 20 years as a chef, certified as both an exec and personal chef and just shy of culinary educator, so I am looking for the small stuff. I want to see some imagination and recipe development. I know the time line is tight at times with the video, but you all are creators of great products, to do that, you had to have passion and creativity. Use that same fire to wow us until we are numb with joy.

food looked great at the end last round, but lets see how it got there! Good Luck !!!

It’s what you do with the potato…potato…potato…if you make seasoned fries, I won’t be impressed.

For whatever reason, YouTube had listed a couple as being 5:01, even though when I ran the videos it ran and then stopped right at 5:00. It’s those extra tenths of a second. 😉

Yep. But tweaks need to made sometimes with lighting and editing so that the dishes are VISUALLY APPEALING as well. It’s “feats your eyes on this”…so I want to see some food that makes my stomach growl and my mouth salivate, as well as being creative. A darkly-lit video, or choppy or annoying editing most likely won’t accomplish that.

I know that no one expects anyone to be a master video producer, so if all else fails, just go with no-frills editing and smooth transitions, IMO.
