NOLA SHOW Review- Death by Mickle’s Pickles

I do not want to confuse you by the title because there are no pickles reviewed on this video. This is about the ghost pepper, the bhut jolokia. Mickey of Mickle’s Pickles was one of those rare people that you look forward to meeting at these hot sauce events. He charms you with really bad puns, some old and some new. In the end, you can not help but laugh and come back for more. If you stay too long, he will go into repeat mode like a teddy bear with a voice pull string. Yet, if you walk away, you just might miss another gem.

At the NOLA Hot Sauce & Gourmet Show, I was delighted by the sweet pickles at the Mickle’s Pickles booth. They have several heat levels. They have Ghost pickles with the pieces of bhut jolokia mixed in with the pickling. Those pickles gave a nice heat level, but nothing too serious unless you got a piece of ghost pepper with your pickle. Then there was the Near Death experience, which are sliced jalapenos in the same ghost pepper pickling, and then the Death experience which is simply ghost pepper slices in the pickle juice.

In this video, you will see me eat the Mickle’s Pickles Near Death and the Death offerings. While I was burning up, we had an innocent bystander step up to the plate to try Mickle’s Pickles Death. So you will get 2 sacrificial lambs for your video entertainment. Enjoy our pain!

If he gets the “Near Death” and “Death” online, I’d order a few jars….

Yes. And it doesn’t take much imagination to figure out what Mickey would consider to be the “first best”. 🙄

Actually within Mickey’s schtick, he tells how people down south come to him he say, “I make the best pickle.” His response is, “That’s okay, we make the second best.” The Death and Near Death are not for sale just fun show pieces. At least for now, maybe he will put out the jalapeno Near Death because its easier and cheaper to make.

Those are some awesome pickles!! I tried the Ghost and the Near Death, and had amazing flavor, but not the heat you would expect from the peppers…
