Feast Your Eyes on This Round 2- Contestant Videos

I have a few HUGE announcements to make before the judges begin their video evaluations. First off, as you know we need to eliminate 2 of the contestants with this round. The job just got a tad easier, Jay Calvert has bowed out of the competition. We hate to lose anyone, but he is working too many hours, and can’t fit the contest into his busy schedule. I do hope that none of our other competitors will do the same, and fight for the bitter end to stay alive in this contest. Sorry we lost you Jay.

The next big announcement I think will make this contest more rewarding for our spicy chefs. We have 2 new sponsors signed on for the cooking challenge. Jim Duffy from www.superhotchiles.com is offering big prizes to the 2nd and 3rd place finishers of the contest. $100 is going to the runner up, and $50 is going to the 3rd place finisher. Awesome! Thanks Jim, and also welcome to the judging table as a permanent part of our panel. We also have a pledge from Chad Lowcock of the award winning spicy product company, Race City Sauce Works to sponsor 2 future rounds, including the upcoming 3rd round. He will give a $50 gift card to the winner of each of those rounds. More on that when Round 3 is announced. Thanks a lot Chad for that great contribution to our cooking contest. He will also be added as a guest judge for those sponsored rounds. We hope that we will be able to add other sponsors for future rounds as the contest continues.

Our judges for this round:
Debby Hartinger from our sponsor Jungle Jim’s International Market and their Weekend of Fire Show in Oct 1-2, 2011
Tracy Carter from JACS Tailgaters representing our other sponsor, the NOLA Hot Sauce & Gourmet Foods Show
CaJohn Hard from CaJohn’s Fiery Foods
Firehead Thomas Gately our very own Chilehead Expert Reviewer
Jim Duffy from www.superhotchiles.com, newest Sponsor and all around pepper seed expert

Johnny from Heartbreaking Dawns

Sam from Zane & Zack’s World Famous Honey Co.

Rick from Dragonfire Hot Sauce

Clement from Cajun Heat

Bill from Buddha Bill’s

Butch from Zydeco Hot Sauce

Scott from MN Specialty Foods & Judo Joel’s

  • Pumpkin Pie (23%, 7 Votes)

Buddah, I like when you send the email to the judges to recap this weeks’ rules (including Johnny’s advantage), etc… so I don’t have to re-watch your 14 minute video from last week. This week was kinda easy, but please continue to do that for us in da future 😉

HaHa Clement his music was interesting :o/ .. I have two favorite parts of Johnny’s video; 1. the fact that Rudy our pup is a photo bomber and 2. Johnny stayed true keeping everything black and white to a T. . .

    Good luck everyone!

    Great videos, everyone!

Clement, love the B&W video, the narration and the tux…

Johnny, there are so many things I love about yours….the music; the food; “BLUE SHIRT” 😆 ; and having a Caucasian and an African-American sitting together. All you needed was “Ebony and Ivory”. 😉

Just in case some of you guys wanted to create an avatar for your comments, let me guide you. Go to the left column, click on the “Gravatar” link and create yourself one. It is not as hard as it seems. If Thomas can do it, then anyone can. 😆

I apologize for the volume, I thought I had it corrected but the program I was using went belly up @ the end of editing :_retarded: Good Luck to all the contestants!

All the entries looked delicious. I’m glad I’m not a judge.

Rick, I am glad to see you got the video editing kinks worked out.

Clement, your production was enjoyable and I would love to have been the one to try the gator.

The gator was surprisingly good! I was skeptical about the Oreo and tried three different ways of cooking it, but in the end on the grill after eating 3 servings, I still wanted more!

This is the hardest contest to judge. All of the videos are great and I didn’t want to vote anyone off.

I did have an idea, though. If any (or all) of the contestants would want to share their recipes, I’ll find a place for them. Maybe in our newsletter, maybe on the website, on facebook and definitely in my kitchen! Please send the recipes to contactus@junglejims.com, Subject Debby and I’ll get them. If you do send them, I’ll make sure your name and company are sent along with the recipes.

I know by seeing all the positive comments here what I am going to say will be a downer. But if you really want to help someone here do better or win you better be brutally honest. And we don’t have to mention names when critiquing. So being that I am judging now I will give my perspective. If we kept to rules in Round 2 that ingredients had to be black or white and oreo had to be used in dish as an ingredient and by violating rules you leave we would have only two contestants left and one more round! So when Al gives guidelines for round three and ingredients it has to be followed. I dont think anyone wants anyone kicked out by rules, so as a judge in next round a violation will give you lowest score possible. Now as I said in comments in Round#1 I need to see your food clearly. Video editing does not have to be perfect but lighting needs to be better in some videos and one video had camera too far away for finished dish. Feast your Eyes remember. One or two contestants either rushed through explaining or did not explain too well. This scores you low too. Look I am not trying to be the bad guy here but if I don’t point out anything some of you will never make it into later rounds. With that being said everyone did do better than last time and I mean everyone. God I feel like Simon Cowell now!!! Also if you like someone in this contest and don’t want to say anything negative here then at least contact them privately and tell them how you really feel where they can improve. Now is the time.
