The Weekend of Fire is a wild weekend filled with fun, food and contests. Over 55 vendors and over 350 samples will be waiting for you in the Fiery Food Expo! There will be vendors coming from all over the country ready to sample their wares. They’ll have hot sauces that range from mild to wild, including some of the hottest hot sauces you have ever tried. Not only are the sauces wild, but wait until you see the people, costumes and booths! The hot sauce community is outrageous, bodacious and contagious!
NEW THIS YEAR – BBQ ALLEY
BBQ Alley is the place to relieve those hunger pains during the Weekend of Fire! After you’ve gone through the Fiery Food Expo and watched a few contests in the Arena of Fire, take the monorail to BBQ Alley. This is the place we’ve designated for lunch, dinner or snacks during the show. We have lots of vendors selling ribs, wings, Hawaiian shaved ice, and even funnel cakes, deep fried oreos and deep fried twinkies. We’re even breaking out a new vendor who will be making deep fried coneys. Hot dogs with all the fixin’s rolled in a tortilla and deep fried. How can you beat that?
MORE THAN HOT SAUCE…
Along with hot sauce vendors, we’ll have representatives from many other companies: BBQ sauces, salsas, rubs, mustards, spices and even ice cream. Last year we had hot chips and hot ice cream sauces as well. We never know from year to year what new products vendors will bring, but we do know they are ready to sell you your favorites!
ALL ITEMS AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE
You can purchase your favorite products right from the manufacturers! Each booth will have plenty of product on hand so sample all you please and be sure to take some home for later.
BEAT THE HEAT WITH CONTESTS FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY!
The Arena of Fire will be handling some wild contests including eating hot crackers, hot lollipops and hot ice cream with hot toppings and even more. Contests will be held at the top of the hour throughout the event. Make sure you get a seat on the bleachers so you can watch the contests in style!
NATIONAL WING EATING CHAMP DECIDED HERE!
Then comes Saturday night! The lights are dimmed in anticipation. The crowd excitedly waits for the contestants as they hesitantly gather. Then a creature arrives; half man, half alien. The Defcon Death Match is ready to begin as John Dilley, owner of Defcon Sauces begins the contest. This is the biggest, hottest hot wing contest we’ve seen – and the trophy is just as big!
VOTE FOR YOUR FAVORITE WOFi (pronounced Woof-y)
Vendors will compete for the coveted WOFi Awards. The WOFi’s are voted on by people attending the show, and all vendors want to be the people’s favorite. This year, the people will again vote on their favorite Hot Sauce, BBQ Sauce, Salsa and Hot Specialty products. Everyone attending the show gets a ballot upon entering. Then all you need to do is taste the samples provided by the vendors and vote for your favorites. Trophies are presented Sunday before the show ends in front of the crowds of adoring chiliheads.
BLOGGING FOR SAUCES
The Bloggers are here! The hot sauce community includes an important group of Bloggers. This integral communication element will once again complement us with their expertise and choose two important awards, The Bloggers’ Best and Bloggers’ Favorite New Item. The Blogger community will have a show booth and will be broadcasting from the show floor, so look for them and stop by to say hi. Feel free to ask questions there about anything ‘heat’ related, they have a wealth of information.

I can not wait to get there. I will be arriving sometime Friday afternoon, and staying all the way through to Open Fields on Oct 7-10. For info on Open Fields, check out the Facebook page HERE. It is something every chilehead must do before they die or Open Fields comes to an end. It is a year to year function run by Jim Campbell for his charity, Step It Up For Charity, so whether you come or not, you can still help with adding to the auction items or just with a donation to get a special poster of the event. I will be coming with Trinidad Scorpions from my slim pickings at the Bowers Show. I hope they will be fresh for anyone wishing to have one. I have them in the fridge in those green stay fresh bags. So far so good.
There is also CaJohn’s Open House on Monday after the Weekend of Fire up in Columbus starting at 8am and going until you want to leave. He will be serving breakfast and lunch for those that attend. If you want a tour of the facility then all you have to do is ask. For those of you that do not know, CaJohn is one of the friendliest guys in the chile business, and once you enter his compound you will be embraced by his good nature and kind heart. If you can spare the time, please do come. Remember it is an Open House so you do not have to ask for an invite, just show up.
Last year CaJohn introduced the very first chile blog reviewers’ contest, and it is coming back again. There will be another Reviewer’s Cup Challenge for those spicy food reviewers who think they know their ingredients, spices and herbs. I won the cup last year, and will be defending it again, and you better bring a clean palette if you want to take it away from me.
One last thing to see if anyone is even reading my long post. I have a comfort food cookbook for the first 3 people who come to me during the Weekend of Fire show is going and while in the Oscar Event Center and say, “Hey Buddah, my favorite comfort food is ___” and of course fill the blank in with their favorite comfort food. The book will be in my car trunk, so I will have to fetch it, so be aware that it will not be on me. Remember, you have to say it while I am in the Oscar Event Center only when the Weekend of Fire show is ongoing, not before, in between or afterwards. The cookbook is awesome with over 200 recipes. I will have another 2 cookbooks at Open Fields to the first people who say the same thing to me while on the grounds. So look for me.
My Sister is pregnant and is due late October, but there is always a chance she will give birth before that time. I hope to do everything as planned, but family comes first. So for any reason I do not show up at Open Fields, then you know why. I will pass on this knowledge to someone who is going if that is indeed the case. Otherwise, I will see those that are coming when I see you. Safe travels everyone.

Your sis can always push the baby back in and hold her legs closed until after the festivities!
Shes been told as much.
Can I hear from those who are planning on attending the CaJohns Hopen House so we can do a little planning?
Thanks!

as of right now the Hudd’s will be there!
