REVIEW: Cholula- Original
I am sure if you are a chilehead, you have heard of this hot sauce from Mexico by now. It is well renowned and can be purchased in virtually any supermarket in the US. I also think most chileheads have tried it at one time or another. Frankly when Cholula came to me asking to do a review with us, I did not think I would be finding a virgin Cholula user amongst all the reviewers on ILIS. I did ask, and I was right. Everyone had tried Cholula at some point or another. Some more than others. Although after canvasing my reviewers I was informed that some of them did not try all their products, and we had 4 to review. Besides the Original in this review, we will also be reviewing their Chili Lime, Garlic and Chipotle hot sauce flavors. Our review team will be Xero, Zombie & Big Daddy B, and the Schobergs. Before we get to the reviews, let us get to know a little about this infamous Mexican hot sauce.
The Story Behind Cholula
Cholula’s Flavorful Fire finds its roots in a well-guarded recipe that’s over 100 years old. This recipe blends pequin peppers, red peppers and spices in a delicate process that produces a perfect balance between flavor and heat.
Cholula Hot Sauce was named after the 2,500 year old city in Mexico. The term Cholula is derived from the pre-Hispanic word “Chollollan” meaning “the place of the retreat.” Cholula’s wooden cap and distinctive yellow label represent the care and quality tradition of Mexican artisanship. Cholula’s intriguing packaging has become a quality icon, a symbol recognized by millions.
What was started as a local favorite soon gained international acclaim. Bottles of the zesty, delicious hot sauce began popping up in restaurant kitchens and retail stores all over North America.

I found this at the Walmart here in OK. I haven’t tried it yet, but I may have to give it a try….
Cholula was my first hot sauce. It’s so good that I fall back on it when I can’t get to any of my own. Great reviews!
I love tapato and cholula . I alway add habenero hot sauce to those
These are some high ratings for such a pedestrian sauce.
Cholula is my favorite mass-market sauce and is in my top 10 fave sauces of all-time.
