REVIEW: Black Swamp Gourmet’s X-Hot Barbeque Sauce

We have done 2 reviews for Black Swamp Gourmet over the last 2 weeks and they have been pretty solid, positive reviews, especially the Hot Cracker Spice Mix. In our last review we did their Hot Sweet & Spicy Barbeque sauce, now with some extra heat it is now X-Hot Sweet & Fiery. One of the complaints from the last review was that there wasn’t much heat in the hot. Will this X-Hot live up to it’s name or fall short for our review team. Once again we have RJ, The Machine & Derrick Wood. We will be reviewing their X-Hot Rub next week.

    Thank you Al for providing this forum and for presenting new products to the chile head community. Thank you RJ, Steve “The Machine”, and Derrick for taking your time to review our products. We’re happy that you liked them. We try to rate the heat level of our sauces for the general public and we do not add high fructose corn syrup to any of our products, however it is in the ketchup that we use.

    Bob and Karen, thank you so much for clarifying and addressing by two questions about this BBQ sauce. That is much appreciated as is the effort you made getting them to all of us. I have been using this a whole bunch and it is getting more enjoyable every time!

    Like I said, I don’t know much about the high fructose, but there is enough concern out there to make me avoid it when purchasing. Have you tried using a ketchup without it? How much did it change the flavor? I would be fascinated to know. Thanks so much and I hope to hear from you soon.

    PS- I am ADDICTED (as is my wife) to one of the four products you sent and we WILL be buying more. I will also be promoting it wherever I ay roam! Promise.

    Derrick, we have tested our sauces using ketchup without HFCS, and we found that the flavor does change significantly. But not because the HFCS makes any difference. Because the brand of ketchup we used when we made the very first batches of our barbeque sauce helps to give it the flavor that we love. We are hopeful that one day soon we will be able to buy the same ketchup made with sugar instead of HFCS. We will let you know when that happens.
