REVIEW: Tropical Spices’ Calypso Sauce

This our 2nd review out of 3 for Tropical Spices, LLC out of Palm Bay, Florida. As I keep pointing out some great spicy products keep emerging out of Florida. It has become the new place for spicy food fans. Check out their 1st review for their Flamin Phantom hot sauce HERE. On their website, this Calypso sauce is referred to as when heat meets sweet, and with one of my favorite fruits in the ingredients – pineapple – I always look forward to hearing what my review team has to say about it. Yet, while I was on the website I noticed a few recipes for this product, and one unusual one stood out for me, Apple Crisp. Interesting right? Well I thought I would copy and share it here before we get to the reviews.

Apple Crisp
Preparation Time: 1/2 hour Serving Size: 2 – 4 people
Ingredients
2 teaspoons
Calypso
2 tablespoons butter
1/2 cup pecans or walnuts, chopped
1/3 cup oats, not instant
1/2 cup brown sugar
4 cups apples, diced
1/4 cup Raisins
2 tablespoons Butter
1/2 tablespoons Cinnamon

Directions
Let’s start with the crisp topping. Melt the butter in a nonstick pan over medium heat. This cooks really fast, so don’t take your eyes off the pan. Stir in nuts, oats, 1/4 cup of brown sugar and cook for about 5 minutes. Transfer mixture into a plate and let it cool off. Wipe out the same pan and return to medium heat. Now sauté apples and raisins with butter for 5 minutes. Add brown sugar, cinnamon and Tropical Spices Calypso Sauce. Simmer for another 2 minutes. Serve apples with a spoon or two of the crisp topping and top everything with your favorite ice cream (vanilla would be perfect!)
