2012 Houston Hot Sauce Festival

There are so many things happening at this show, and I will create a diary for you of everything that goes on and try to bring you the information first hand from my point of view. It might not be the most timely of updates, but I will cover it to the max as I experience it and bring it back to you here. I am heavy involved in the show with our 1st salsa contest, info below. I plan on taking on all challenges for the Intensity Academy Lick-a-thon. Yes, Vic and I will once again lock lollies in this very extreme heated battle. I will have a very special challenge to offer all the contestants prior to the event. No one knows about this, not even Intensity Academy, so stay tuned for more about this. I will also be visiting all the vendors and getting some pics of their booths and show off some show swag at the same time. It is going to be a blast, and I am so siked about going. Check out all the fun and all the attending vendors below.

Rib Challenge:

Chile Pepper magazine publisher Sir McMillen is anxiously waiting the 2012 Houston Hot Sauce Festival for a very special reason.

He has always been a fan of the Hot Sauce Show for years, however 18 months ago he purchased the nationally acclaimed foodie magazine Chile Pepper whose passion for the Zesty foods parallels the annual show in Stafford, Texas.

However, this year the Festival along with a year long Quest for the Perfect Ribs will culminate at the show on Saturday the 15th.

Six nationally known and award winning BBQ’ers will cook-off for the Grand Championship claim of the Best of the Best!

“We researched the big shows and BBQ cook-offs around the country, selected these six because they have lit a fire under my tongue and in my palette, claims Sir. Not only will they be cooking for seven discriminating judges, they will also be sharing their succulent fare with attendees to this year’s event.”

Be there, your taste buds will love you!!!

Competitors:

Denton, TX – Texas Rib Rangers – Bill & Barbara Milroy
Memphis, TN – Yazoo’s Delta Q – Melissa Cookston

ILoveItSpicy Salsa Contest:

I wanted to do something for the Festival, all the hard working salsa makers across the country, and at the same time raise money and awareness for the Snowdrop Foundation. The Snowdrop Foundation’s Mission Statement:

“Snowdrop Foundation is dedicated to assisting patients and families at Texas Children’s Cancer Center through funding for continued research to eliminate childhood cancer and scholarships for college bound pediatric cancer patients and survivors.”

A great charity that means a lot to me as well as the show organizers. So the salsa contest we setup is open to anyone who makes salsa in a jar. They do not have to be at the show to participate. We have 6 judges including myself, Brian Meagher of www.HotSauceDaily.com, the one and only Grapenut who is representing the Snowdrop Foundation, musical guest Zydeco Dots’ Tom Potter, and Foodies Jerry Lee and Tony Roberts from Savannah, GA. We will announce 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners at the Saturday night show dinner for 2 categories- Fruit-based and Everything Else. We are hoping that the various Houston media outlets will pick up on the event and will put the word out for our humble little contest and get them some exposure.

Along with all these contests, we will be crowning our Feast Your Eyes on This Spicy Cooking Challenge winner, Shauna Jellsey from TATS Sauces & Marinades at the show dinner as well. We have a huge award to present her from ILoveItSpicy.com. I also have a very special presentation that I am keeping in the safe until the end of the show dinner. It could get emotional folks, so buckle up and come for the ride!
