Feast Your Eyes on This Spicy Cooking Challenge 2013- Round 2

Round 2

We are back again with Round 2 of our spicy cooking contest. The video below has the newest challenge for our contestants as we whittle down from 8 to 7 with the results of Round 1, our pepper jelly challenge. I will also announce the winner who will get a bonus for this new challenge round, and the loser who will no longer be part of the contest. Round 2 is being sponsored by our 2011 Feast Your Eyes on This Spicy Cooking Champion, Clement Bourg of Cajun Heat. He will be a guest judge and give a $50 gift card to the winner of this round.

Plus, Chile Pepper Magazine will give an advertising package valued at over $2000. Cash prizes will also be awarded by Endorphin Farms & Refining Fire Chiles. Together, 1st place will receive an additional $300, the runner-up $150, and 3rd place $100. Plus, on top of all that good stuff, they will get one big ass trophy from yours truly. Congrats to all moving on. Some great recipes. I do have to defend Rick a bit. Although he may have used a lot of butter, the flavor profile of the jelly he received was so mild that he wanted the flavor to come through. I have to wonder if the flavors came through in the other recipes. Rick’s french toast with the compound butter was absolutely delicious.

I don’t think anyone doubts that his french toast was delish..the man is a master of flavor profiling…however, it comes down to asthetics in this contest. It has to look beautiful, since we can’t judge with our taste buds, we can only judge with our peepers..hence the name FEAST YOUR EYES!

I don’t know. Gonna be honest, that french toast looked phenomenal. I think you guys missed the boat by letting him go this early.

I agree that it has to look good too but it is a cooking competition and the star ingredient needs to come through in a good way and not be bastardized. Not only look good.

Man, what a fun round this is turning out to be. Regardless of the outcome I am really enjoying this. It’s hard, but fun. Nothing brings out my energy like the creative process! The dish is done and now the hard work begins – editing!
Good luck everyone. Chef Ricky, sorry to see you go man. Good luck with your company. Gotta try me some of that Chocolate soon. Take care.

Awesome chocolates and caramels…you do need to check them out! The pumpkin seed brittle is still one of my favorites!
