Chileheads Facebook Group Photo Contest – Part 1

Internet Pepper pic not for contest

I assembled 10 of the best Stuffed Pepper photos from the Chilehead Photo Contest. I am awarding 2 bottles of hot sauce from 2 different companies to the photo that receives the most votes. I have the names of those that are attached to each photo, but I will not include them until I have a winner rather than prejudice the vote. So please do not claim or announce which person submitted them. I am sure some will know it or find out from the previous contest post, but I ask you to vote on which photo you think deserves to sit atop the Facebook Chileheads page for at least a month.

The 2nd half of the contest is still being selected and I will have that up later in the day. Those photos will be other food entries. This was not a contest for pepper porn, just best food porn. So you will get a chance to vote on that later. I will have the final results on both polls on Monday afternoon as polls will close at 6pm est.

The winners of the contest will be awarded 2 bottles of hot sauce from 2 of my favorite sauces I have in stock. The companies products I select will have no knowledge of this prize, they are purely favorites of mine that I have extra of. No entry was selected out of favoritism or prejudice, and by no means works for ILoveItSpicy. I solely selected the photos and was not influenced in my determination other than the drool-factor that ultimately swayed me in the end.

The list for the winners was a copy and paste from what was posted on Facebook. Chile Pepper Magazine was nice enough to send me the results, but in a format I could not use, so I did what I could do to present you with the list of winners. Please forgive me for any spelling mistakes. If you need to have me correct anything, email me at albuddah@yahoo.com with your corrections, and I will get to it as soon as I can. Congrats to all the companies that won or placed in these prestigious awards. Keep up the good and spicy work folks!

2014 Best Salsa in the World Contest

Since it was a huge hit the last 2 years at the Houston Hot Sauce Festival, (over 70 jars of salsas submitted last year), we are doing this contest once again. This time we are joined by Ken Alexander from www.FieryWorld.com who has graciously agreed to take my place at the event since I can not be there. Since he did a bang-up job at the Louisiana Hot Sauce Expo, I know he will carry that professional approach to this contest as well. Thanks Ken! That is not all folks, James Beck from iBurn has agreed to add to the prize for the winners. All 3 first place winning salsas in their respective categories will be bought to sell at their brick and mortar and online stores. That is a huge bonus beyond just the trophies we provide. James will also be a judge, so if he tastes something he loves, he just might be looking to add those salsas as well. So you people who can’t make the festival, can still be able to experience a little of the best salsas in the land through iBurn! Thanks so much James for being a valuable partner with us this year.

The most important factor in this salsa contest is to raise money for the Snowdrop Foundation which helps with Children’s Cancer research and support.

Volcanic Peppers & Grimaldi’s Fiery Pizza Challenge

Fiery Pizza Trophy 2 angles

For the 2nd year in a row at the NYC Hot Sauce Expo, ILoveItSpicy & Volcanic Peppers joined in with the infamous Grimaldi’s Pizzeria for an incredible, edible spicy pizza eating contest. With a little help from our friends at Puckerbutt Pepper Company we were able to obtain a camera from their documentary reporter, Jeff Howlett. Thank you very much Ed Currie and Jeff for your kind contribution. On top of that, we got some help from Ken Alexander of www.FieryWorld.com, who took the time to get behind the camera and film the contest. The crowd was great and got really into it. If you wish to purchase the Italian Spice we used in making these ultra hot pizzas, then head on over to the Volcanic Peppers website.

The Great Spicy Chicken Salad Challenge 2014

Chicken fish cigarette

It is returning once again to the North Market Fiery Food Festival in Columbus, Ohio. Taking place during President’s Day Weekend February 15-16, 2014, this year’s challenge is once again a vendor only challenge open to anyone selling at the North Market whether it be as a festival vendor or an artisan at the marketplace downstairs. No amateurs are allowed to enter, but anyone can be a judge! The challenge kicks off Saturday Feb 15th at 8am, and all entrants need to submit 16 or more ounces of their creations before 7:50pm to qualify. All entries must be turned in at the back of the bar area upstairs where the headquarters of the festival will be held.

Who can turn some chicken into something extraordinary?

Chicken Salad is pretty much a leftover meal that we often overlook. If you go into some gourmet delis you can find some top notch chicken salads that will completely wow you. I have made some slight spicy variations over the years, and have not reached Nirvana yet. So I am going to sponsor the Spicy Chicken Salad Challenge again in hopes to find the ultimate spicy chicken salad recipe. These culinary wizards do not get to compete too often against each other, so I wanted to promote something just for them and to stir their creative juices. There will be a nice trophy to the winner which will be announced Sunday morning at the start of the 2nd day of the festival.

2013 Best Salsa in the World Contest – LAST CALL!!!

salsa n chips resized

Since it was a huge hit last year, (55 jars of salsas submitted last year), we are doing it again. The most important factor in this salsa contest is to raise money for the Snowdrop Foundation which helps with Children’s Cancer research and support. All salsa entries are $5/salsa with 2 jars of salsa per entry to be submitted, but we will gladly accept more $$$ because 100% of the proceeds are given to the Snowdrop Foundation. If you did not hear about this salsa contest last year, we are sponsoring it in conjunction with the Houston Hot Sauce Festival. The salsa entered can be from anywhere, but must be manufactured in a legal kitchen and have nutritional and ingredient declarations on the label. No fresh salsa will be allowed, only sealed jars to be as fair as possible. We had 2 categories last year – traditional and fruit-based. We have now added in a black bean/black bean & corn salsa category. You can enter as many salsa categories as you desire. Who knows you might win them all.

Zestfest Midwest 2013 People’s Preference Award Winners & Show Pics

How about some positive highlights from the Zestfest Midwest weekend. The People’s Preference Awards was voted on by the public via a very interesting computer setup. You log in your basic information, then the staff give you samples of the entries and you rate the texture, the aroma, flavor, etc. I thought it was a clever way of doing things. Once all the voting is tabulated after the Friday and Saturday shows, the winners were announced Sunday morning. Below is a list of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners.

Zestfest Midwest 2013: Defcon Cluckwing Challenge

ZFMW_WingContest

Normally Defcon Sauces hosts the Deathmatch, the fiercest chicken wing eating competition known to man. With a few tweaks/concessions for the Zestfest Midwest show and suddenly we went from chicken wings to chicken nuggets and instead of a Deathmatch sauce, they used the fiery Cluckwing Orange Sauce. By the way, one of the best chicken wing sauces ever created. Sorry the coverage at the end wasn’t more spread out to see what was really happening. Lots of controversy at the end, and my video footage does not cover the full length of the table. So we miss out on the instant replay I was hoping for.
