2013 Fiery Foods Weekend – Race City Sauce Work’s Schweaty SamBalls Spicy Meatball Eating Contest

P1010593

Now that is a spicy meatball! Created by Chad Lowcock of Race City Sauce Works, Chad hoped to make a tasty, fiery and very messy challenge that people watching would not soon forget. I for one enjoyed both watching it and the flavor of the samball marinara he created for the meatball. It was flat out pleasing to my taste buds. I had 1 meatball and it was HUGE. It must have been very hard to eat 2 of those bad boys, plus a spicy yeast roll added for sopping up the sauce from the plate. Do check out the event…

The Great Spicy Chicken Salad Challenge

Who can turn some chicken into something extraordinary? Chicken Salad is pretty much a leftover meal that we often overlook. If you go into some gourmet delis you can find some top notch chicken salads that will completely wow you. I have made some slight spicy variations over the years, and have not reached Nirvana yet. So I am going to sponsor the very 1st Spicy Chicken Salad Challenge at the Annual Fiery Food Show at the North Market in Columbus, Ohio for President’s Day Weekend. The kick here is that it will not be an amateur contest, it will be for the Vendors only who attend the show to sell their goods. These culinary whizs do not get to compete too often against each other outside of the ILIS Feast Your Eyes on This Spicy Cooking Challenge, which will be back for another year on March 6th, 2013 (FREE PLUG). Send me an email for contestant info if interested. Only 8-10 spots open.

2012 Weekend of Fire – Feast of Fire Challenge

I have had some editing issues as of late, so this video was not edited at all, so it is what it is. The Feast of Fire match was supposedly the fiery battle of the Weekend of Fire event. I think it missed wide left, but the idea was solid. With some tweaking, I think this might be an event worth doing each and every year. As I stated in my show wrap-up last week, if you put someone like Johnny McLaughlin of Heartbreaking Dawns and/or Chad Lowcock of Race City Sauce Works as the creators of this 4 course hellish meal, then I think we will have the fiery challenge of the year. Their creativity and cooking acumen within our spicy community is right up there with the best. No one would be better than CaJohn, but the month plus of events is probably more than he would want to deal with. Imagine what 4 course meal they could cook up for the 10 brave volunteers. Perhaps we add someone else in the mix and let them each present 1 of the 4 courses.

2012 Weekend of Fire: HBD’s Brownie Brawl Buster

Yes, the pic is one of Johnny’s evil brownies. Actually it is the final round’s brownie with ILoveItSpicing and topped off with the new ghost scorpion chile pepper. This was by far the hottest Brownie Brawl Buster we have ever done. You will see how many contestants are in the final round 3 at the end. All the others dropped by the wayside. Johnny describes the contest up in your face style at the beginning of the video, then decides to up the heat on round 2’s brownies with a little Cauterizer. At the end of the video I stay on the 2nd place guy as he looks like he is about to lose it on camera, so I do not get the winner, but the pics at the end of the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place guys are all there for you to see.

2012 Houston Hot Sauce Festival – Special Award Presentations

We finally got to give Shauna our award for winning the 2012 Feast Your Eyes on This Spicy Cooking Challenge as she was at the Houston Hot Sauce Festival to collect a couple of her prizes. One being a free booth at the festival, and the other our ginormous award. Next year she will be able to collect her free both at the NOLA Hot Sauce Show now renamed as Chile Pepper Extravaganza! Pictured with Shauna above is the man behind the show and Chile Pepper Magazine, Sir McMillan. On Shauna’s other side is show promoter extraordinaire for this Houston spicy festival, Carol Bourge. Congrats to Shauna once again for her victory.

Along with Shauna’s award presentation, I also awarded 2 more people for a Lenny Award for Contributions in the Chile Community. Last year I awarded the very 1st special awards to CaJohn Hard and Bwana Bret Vitek. For those of you that do not know, the Lenny is named after my dearly departed Dad, Leonard “Lenny” Goldenberg who passed away 12/19/10. To honor him and all the selfless things he did for others, I named the award for him. Lenny Awards are also given out in December for best spicy products of the year. So, who received the next 2 Contribution Lenny Awards? You will have to watch and find out. I will say they are more than deserving and have given much to make this chile community better. Without their contributions, our community would not be the same.

The deadline for receipt is September 1st if you are not vending at the Houston Hot Sauce Show. If you are vending at the show you still need to inform me exactly what your entries will be.
