Round 1 Challenge:

Let me review what the 1st challenge is for those who missed my video announcement on Wednesday. All the contestants received a jar of pepper jelly from Chef Denise Baxter of Mountain View High School’s Wildcat Cafe & Bakery. We randomly sent them 1 of 4 kinds of pepper jelly, (Red Pepper Habanero, Jalapeno, Mango Habanero and the 2012 Lenny Award winning Pineapple Habanero). 2012 Houston Hot Sauce Festival – Special Award Presentations

We finally got to give Shauna our award for winning the 2012 Feast Your Eyes on This Spicy Cooking Challenge as she was at the Houston Hot Sauce Festival to collect a couple of her prizes. One being a free booth at the festival, and the other our ginormous award. Next year she will be able to collect her free both at the NOLA Hot Sauce Show now renamed as Chile Pepper Extravaganza! Pictured with Shauna above is the man behind the show and Chile Pepper Magazine, Sir McMillan. On Shauna’s other side is show promoter extraordinaire for this Houston spicy festival, Carol Bourge. Congrats to Shauna once again for her victory.

Along with Shauna’s award presentation, I also awarded 2 more people for a Lenny Award for Contributions in the Chile Community. Last year I awarded the very 1st special awards to CaJohn Hard and Bwana Bret Vitek. For those of you that do not know, the Lenny is named after my dearly departed Dad, Leonard “Lenny” Goldenberg who passed away 12/19/10. To honor him and all the selfless things he did for others, I named the award for him. Lenny Awards are also given out in December for best spicy products of the year. So, who received the next 2 Contribution Lenny Awards? You will have to watch and find out. I will say they are more than deserving and have given much to make this chile community better. Without their contributions, our community would not be the same.
