Lenny Awards – Best Spicy Products of 2015

2013 Best of the Year Lenny AwardWelcome to the 6th Annual Lenny Awards for the best new spicy products. Some of these awards are for the best products our review teams encountered and gave the highest ratings for. Most of them are from my encounters from fiery food events, purchased online or perhaps found along the way in many journeys to and fro. The Lenny Award is named after my Father who died of Cancer on this very day back in 2010. Rather than mourn his death, I am hear to celebrate his life and how he would help total strangers in need just because he could. I am trying to do the same with the Lenny Award by given something from my heart to an industry and community that I love. The Lenny is given to my favorite products and there is no other factor involved in my choice. I don’t get a chance to try everything in due time, so some of these products might be older than 2015 when I first got a chance to try them. I have listed the names of the companies below the video that either received a Lenny Award or got an honorable mention. If you do not want to view that spoiler list, go watch the video and enjoy the moment there.

The Lenny Awards have not been purchased yet, as I will need some of the addresses of the companies I will not see at the NYC Hot Sauce Expo come April. Those companies that attend that great event will have them presented by me in person. Those that do not, will get them mailed directly to whatever address you provide me with. The video is long as I ramble a lot and I try to give each product I mention their due. The addresses below are there for a reason. I hope you will give some thought into purchasing a few of these winners. I think you will be pleasantly surprised. Besides, it is the holiday season and some of these fine artisan products might still be on sale.

Thank you for your time and congratulations to all the fiery product makers for making such flavorful and delicious food enhancements.

Still dealing with the Thanksgiving Feast-Shopping-lag? You have your turkey leftovers and sides you are still munching on, trying decide if you ever want to eat like this again, right? Then all the emails that come to your inbox shoving sale after sale down your throat. Thinking that if the 2 afternoon emails from Amazon were better than the 3 from the morning. Not to mention the 20-30 since Thursday. If you have ever bought anything, you got reminded that you were a customer that needed reminding over and over again. I do not know about you, but the more I got, the less I wanted to buy from them. Even some of the small makers in our community flooded my inbox. Not just from their Facebook posts every day, but from their sale emails. Did they think I did not see the first 5?

Ok, I thought I’d touch on a trend that I’ve seen growing for the past few years. Since I joined into the Legions of Manufacturers within the hot sauce industry over a decade ago, I have seen a few trends come and go. As of late, it seems the borders of imagination are being pushed with some really cool ideas, from spicy peanut brittle to spicy cream cheese. Well, it seems we’ve hit the radar screen of the big guys.

It’s that time of year again when we chilliheads may have to feign a little poise and gratitude. You know it’s coming…that day when you are handed something which you look upon & have to make a quick adjustment to your face to bring on a smile and utter the words ‘thank you’. I’m talking about being given a chilli-themed gift for Christmas!

Habanero Montreal – Dec. ’15

Martin Lamoureux

Hello Chileheads,

Here in Quebec, the real hot sauces lovers are in small numbers, but are increasing year by year. Of these, one name often keeps coming up – Claude Dubé. Some media called the man with the Teflon tongue a legend. Certainly, you cannot remain indifferent when you see him eat peppers or sauces. I had the chance to meet him at the gathering of the first Annual Chili Quebec, and I found a man with an intense passion that he is not afraid to share. A colorful man with an attractive personality and when he speaks, people around him listen. Nothing seems to hurt him and any hot pepper sauce doesn’t seem to phase him. Not even the extracts; no product scares him. I asked him whether he felt some pain and his answer surprised me a little. Yes he feels pain, but he has been eating spicy food since the age of 6-7 years old, and he tolerates the burn and is able to ignore the pain. Go see his videos you’ll understand what I am talking about.

By Ken Alexander, It’s a Fiery World

It’s that time of year where thoughts go to snowmen, Santa, Dreidels, Christmas Trees, Holiday Parties, and all things fa la la la la! So of course you’re gonna be asked to bring something to the party. What better time could there be to get creative with your favorite hot sauce? Since I’m not the creative chef type who makes amazing sauces and spicy fare, I find ways to use other people’s creations and always bring something spicy and fun to Christmas parties. So I thought it was appropriate and timely to share a couple of my favorite party time recipes!

Adventures of the Accidental Chilehead – Dec. ’15

Christmas is my favorite holiday. I love making homemade candy. I love all the appetizers I get to make. Lately with my chile obsession, I have begun using chile in new ways.

I mentioned in an earlier article, I like to use chiles and steep them in some type of liquid. Milk is my choice this time. This month’s recipe is a Hot Hot Chocolate.

Ingredients to make this fun drink:
