Help Heather’s Head Benefit

A few months ago I met up with Chef Jeff Ayres of Spanky’s Shenangins here in my hometown of Leesburg, VA. It was in relation to the Hell Night spicy food event he was to prepare. I was instantly charmed by this man and loved his flair of spicy cuisine. Firehead Thomas, his wife Annabelle, and Sean, the official cartoonist of ILIS all went with me, and were treated to some fine ultra-hot fancy-schmancy food. We dipped our feet into Hell for a Night.

Now one of their beloved employees, Heather, is fighting her own Hell with Cancer. Read the message below from Chef Jeff with an update added in from me:

On March 29th, one of our beloved staff members was diagnosed with not 1, but 2 tumors within the right parietal lobe of her brain. This part of the brain is the part that controls optical sensory perception and left side motor skills.

On April 18th, she had surgery to remove these masses, but the doctors couldn’t get all the tissue out. Now her tumors have turned Cancerous. She’s going to have to fight it off using Chemotherapy and radiation treatment. It will be a tough road ahead.

As many of you know, today’s health insurance doesn’t cover nearly enough. We at Spanky’s stand by our family in good times and bad, so this fundraiser is being held to help her financially as well as emotionally.

23 years old is too young to be dealing with something like this, but Heather is approaching it with grace and dignity. Help show your support on Saturday April 30th by attending and placing a bid on one our auction or raffle prizes.

While you’re here, order one of Chef Jeff’s specials created for the day with all proceeds going to the benefit. Oh yeah, Did we mention that there will be live music out on the deck performed by 6 different acts.

Please support this cause. It’s how we take care of and help out family.

Thanks,
Jeffery Ayres

Now, I am not sure what you all can do, but I am putting this up to see if someone would like to help. My Dad died of Cancer back in December, and I know the costs and heartache and suffering that goes into this. One pill my Dad had to take cost him $100/pill with no insurance coverage. The Medical industry is great isn’t it?

If this story touches your heart, I urge you to get involved. Send a check to the above address. Call the restaurant and put a bid in for one of those amazing auction items. If you have something you want to contribute, please call them and send it out ASAP if necessary. You might not know Heather, but it could be someone you love. Pay It Forward my chile Brothers and Sisters. As a start, I have given them over $100 of my favorite fiery food products to raffle or auction or whatever. So do what you can. Thanks!

I will be passing this around. I am a cancer survivor and between 3 sugeries, chemo, radiation, and scans I had a medical bills around $800,000. Heather needs to concentrate on fighting cancer not medical bills. I will do as much as I can, please anyone that can give this young woman some much needed help! Thanks for making us aware Al.

It’s July now, and I just came across this beautiful site that spread the news of the benefit for my daughter, Heather. Beacause of all your efforts, the Help Heather’s Head was a wonderful and successful day! Thank you to all! If anyone is on the west coast of Washington State, (her home town), there’s another benefit on July 30th in Bellingham, WA at the Bella Marina…spaghetti feed! thanks everyone! :_drinkbeer:
