Fireside Chat- July 2011

Welcome to our version of the off topic thread. This is where you air your grievances, ask questions, give answers and just talk about other things not covered within the other topics. Please keep it reasonably clean because we never know what kid might stumble upon our little website and read what is written within. Otherwise, have fun and make yourselves at home.

Here is an off topic thought: Check out my cartoon site at http://roguesymmetry.blogspot.com/. It’s general humor but occasionally will have chile/hot sauce themes to it.

Ha ha, seriously though, be safe this weekend. If you’re drinking get a cab please. Be safe. Have fun. And light some fricken fireworks!!!!!

Has anyone out there ever organized a festival or a farmer’s market? I’d be interested in asking you some questions.

I have suffered some losses to my plants due to excessive rain this year so I am going to be planting some of Jim’s pepper plants into pots soon to supplement my garden plants. I usually just raise my plants from seed in flats and then transfer to the garden so this will be a little new for me. I wanted to get any suggestions people had as far as; best potting soil to use, any amendments you add to it, drainage tips, for example should I consider putting rocks or sand on the bottom of the pot, or any other tips around growing in pots.

Buddah, just wanted to let you know I got the Tats Black Dahlia sauce today, it’s really good, definitely the hottest bbq sauce I’ve ever tried. I also loved all the other various sauces I got, the Boysenberry Chipotle from amazon and the Kumquat ones from etsy and Kumquat Growers. They do have the kumquat peel in them, but you can barely notice it, so I’m glad about that.

So today i open up another bottle of hot sauce , since i just ran out of 6 bottles in like 4 days . Well it was crazy mother puckers Habitual Jalapeno , by far the worst hot sauce i have ever tasted and smelled . I looked at my wife and i was like fuck the 7.99 bottle and threw it out after having one taste of this crap.

I would like to fire the guys that gave this to them “2005 Fiery Food Challenge Winner for 3rd best Jalapeno sauce!”

sorry just had to vent . They know nothing about good hot sauce . my dog even ran away from the smell

I have some clunkers that won the Scovie as well. I think the CMP has some good sauces, and I do not think the Jalapeno one is truely that bad. I mized it with some heavy cream and flour(thickened like a rue) and made a nice pasta sauce with is. Maybe you just had a bad bottle. That can happen.

See scott . i read your review for that hot sauce and it did not sound that bad . Nothing to brag about but at least you can use it since it taste kind of like taco bell .
This hot sauce smell and taste like someone threw up . Most hot sauces that i dont like i can at least use for a marinade.

I am very not that picky some of my favor hot sauces are
    North shore Nitro force 10
Marie Sharp’s Habanero Pepper Sauce HOT – my favor
    Tapatio
    Marie Sharp’s Belizean Heat
    Hog’s Ass Garlic Habanero Sauce
Any of the ring of fires

Also another hot sauce that i threw away was Blair Q Heat Tequila Jalapeno. It is something about the jalapeno hot sauce that us tequila that suck .

working with Jalapenos can be tough. they can be really bitter and a lot of people around here pair them with waaaayyy too much cilantro

Well one of my favorite jalapeno sauces is ..

El pato salsa picante chile Jalapeno , not hot at all i can almost use the whole bottle on stuff but great tasting . I just mix in some habanero sauce with this and it does a meal really well . I have a problem i mix like 5 or 6 hot sauces on a plate at a time 🙂 i can never have just one
