Interview with Dave Hirschkop of Dave’s Gourmet
If you are a hot sauce maker and if you are to ever watch a video from us, this very might be the one you must watch. Why? How does a $1 million contest from Dave’s Gourmet sound to you? I met Dave Hirschkop at the Fancy Food Show in DC. Dave is the creator of the very first extract sauce, Dave’s Insanity back in 1993 as he introduced it to the world at the Fiery Food Show. Since then he has transformed his company into a main stream gourmet sauce line featuring many award winning products like mustard, bbq and pasta sauces. Plus some of their innovative packaging designs have also garnered awards for several years now. Dave’s Gourmet has changed from a hot sauce company to much much more. A lot of us dream the dream, Dave is now ready to share the dream with some lucky sauce maker out there. Maybe even more than one the way it sounds to me when he brought it up in the interview.
I truly apologize for the length of time I actually talk during the interview which is quite excessive. I was not prepared for the interview, and you can tell by my questions, I was truly winging it. Bear with those issues, as Dave shares much with me over the course of the interview. Plus, you have to listen up for Dave’s contest it is a stunner. Thanks to Dave for giving me the time.

Wow Al, you did really well I think. No prep or anything? I couldn’t do that well if it was scripted. Good job and way to get one of the big boys of our spicy world! Thank you.
Oh, and Dave you’ve been hurting me for years!
Nice work Buddah!
Great interview!
I just want to say this before everybody goes gaga…
Dave used the disclaimer words “up to” one million dollars, and hinted at a royalty-based payment system and different contest categories. So it’s not like Dave would be handing the winner a $1,000,000 check. It’s still an interesting promotion and a good opportunity for some talented sauce makers. We’ll have to see the details, which I’m sure will be posted on all the blogs. Again, good job Buddah and thanks for getting Dave on camera.
Maybe I am just being hard on myself, but I hated the way I conducted the interview. The questions were just me babbling before I finally decide to ask something. Dave was great and let me talk endlessly, but I need to shorten my questions, and talk less about myself and ask more about the interviewee. Thanks nonetheless for the kind compliments.
Dave contacted me, but he never asked me what I thought was the hottest,
I have ALWAYS said the Trinidad Scorpion was the hottest, and I have grown & eaten every super hot out there that I know of! Buddah, thanks for the mention and I agree you did babble at times, lol, I do the same thing when I get excited.
Butch, I didn’t babble because I was excited. I just babble.
True dat
All that name dropping…lol 😆
Whuuut??? Buddah when you start talking about “heat” you get excited.
Its all about passion for peppers and hot products, just listen to yourself when your “babblin”. I have met a few people that truly babble, they never shut up and the topic constantly changes, you are very specific in the topic, its passion, not true babbling.
Butch Buddah does not need anything to make him babble. How many times have you been on the phone with him?? But alas he now knows defeat for I outbabbled him in New Mexico and have many witnesses to prove it.
and I have a new co-worker that can go toe to toe with even you Jim. We are talking Hall of Fame level. Who would think there would be 2 people that could out babble me?
Buddah is a tolerable babbler. He can jump from topic to topic like a super-caffeinated frog going from one lily pad to another, but it’s rarely annoying.
U hav not seen me after an energy drink so don’t speak too soon.
