REVIEW: Mi Madre Pique de Puerto Rico

I found this hot sauce at the Fancy Food Show in DC. I had preconceived notions of what a clear hot sauce with peppers floating in it was going to taste like. Boy was I wrong. It is hard to shake your head of that thought, but this is the product that teaches you that you should not judge a hot sauce by it’s contents, or is that book by it’s cover? Whatever it is, I so wanted to get my reviewers to see if I was wrong about this product.

I have to thank Alessandra for the effort in getting these bottles from Puerto Rico all the way to their reviewer destination. For this review we have G back, Firehead Thomas and Heynetboy with his debut review.

@Firehead – I can’t believe you just glugged it down! I found the heat to be quite hot. And yes, the small sample-sized bottle is a different concoction than that in the larger flask bottle. See our review for the details. The peppers look different, and the ingredient list is a bit different.

@Heynetboy – Excellent points on the uses of the sauce. It is too thin and runny for pizza or chips, but there’s that other use for the “pickled peppers” floating about inside. Nice job, and good on you for pointing out how pretty the sauce is… I got the “rummage sale” reference… I have one of those decorative bottles that Marilyn wishes I would throw away. (Not the Pique mi Madre). Ha!

@Buddah – I was really hoping to see your review of this sauce, since you told us about it at the show. Perhaps you could make an exception and add a +1 review of your own to the line-up?

Brian, I didn’t get a bottle. I would have if they allowed it at the Fancy Food Show, but we weren’t allowed. So all I can give you is my initial reaction which I did above.
