UCCFS: BLT vs Baked Ziti Round 1

This is the last Round 1 #6 vs #11 seed match up for the Ultimate Chilehead Comfort Food Showdown. In the 6th seed spot we have the BLT (Bacon, Lettuce and Tomato) sandwich, and their food rival for this round is Italian superstar Baked Ziti in the 11th seed. Will the old saying, “everyone loves bacon”, (except for Scott Roberts), carry any weight in the comfort food showdown? Unlike most dishes, the BLT is pretty much as straightforward of a meal as you will get. Outside the bread choice, you get what you ask for- bacon, lettuce and tomato. Any substitution would make it a completely different acronym and thus a new food item. So, as simple as a meal as this is, is bacon strong enough to carry the weight of the lettuce and tomato because we all know they are mere fillers and not the reason why people have the BLT? In truth, the sandwich should be called B & F Bacon & Friends Sandwich or just B if you want to cut to the chase. I am not sure ordering a B will sound the same as the BLT, but it is more truthful. Gladys Knight did it when she cut out the Pips, and went on to have a more successful career because of it. Lettuce also not forget the mayo or other condiments that go within the sandwich. They have no name in the credit. Maybe it is time to add them in like a law firm. BLT and M perhaps? What about adding in the Salt and Pepper too? No credit for their additions? Folks, clearly it is all about the bacon.

Baked Ziti is Italian pasta layers with sauce, herbs, and cheeses. You can add meat, sausage, chicken, vegetables, but alone it is still a classic meal. A really good red gravy- as Italian’s call it- can make a dish go up another level, and make any cheap boxed pasta into an extravagant food experience. The gooey melted blend of Italian cheeses on top and within only escalates the excitement. I personally love when ricotta is added into the dish much like lasagna. It is an element I prefer to have than to do without.

This battle comes down to the virtues of bacon vs the Italian food experience. Which is your favorite comfort food?
