REVIEW: Teaspoon Willie’s Everything Sauce
I met the good people at Teaspoon Willie’s at the DC Fancy Food Show, and was happy to hear back from them a few days after the show was over. The flavors seemed good to me without any food, so I wanted to see what our reviews would discover through their reviewing of their products. We are reviewing their Everything Sauce and their Spicy Sauce. The names are simple, and sometimes it really works. For this review we brought out the big guns…RJ, The Machine and Firehead Thomas. Before we get to the review, let us learn a little about Teaspoon Willie’s.
About Teaspoon Willie’s:
“I have always been inspired to cook and experiment with food. The majority of that inspiration was from my family. Both sides of my family were extremely talented at creating delicious masterpieces each time they were in the kitchen. Throughout my youth, I was always there by their side absorbing everything that was going on. Through experimentation, I was able to define my sense of taste and smell and incorporate my own ideas and styles of cooking into something great. It allowed me to express in many ways my talent and love for a better type of food. A quote that resonates with me while cooking is ‘Food is life & life is food.’ Sharing a meal together should not only be about eating good food, but bringing people together to enjoy each other’s company, tell stories and reminisce.”
– Willie Ingram, Founder & President of Teaspoon Willie’s, Inc.
Teaspoon Willie’s was originally just a project of Willie Ingram’s to create a great BBQ sauce. He admits this project may have been the only time he has ever written down his ingredients when cooking. After perfecting it, Willie began giving the sauce away to friends and family to see what they thought. Everyone who sampled the sauce thought it was fantastic, but found it to have a very distinct flavor which deviated from a traditional BBQ sauce or any other sauce for that matter. No one could quite place what the sauce tasted like, but regardless, they wanted more. He continued giving the sauce away to see what other people thought of it. Over time he amassed a list of foods and beverages people enjoyed with the sauce. As it turned out, the sauce was used in so many unique ways with so many different foods (and drinks) he thought to call it what it is: Everything Sauce.
One day Willie and his friend Kevin Oldenburg were talking about the popularity of the sauce and that it could become the basis for a company. Shortly after that conversation Teaspoon Willie’s was formed and the two have been working diligently to build this simple idea into a national brand.
The buzz generated from the Everything Sauce prompted the creation of new Teaspoon Willie’s sauces which include Sweet, Tangy, Spicy and Asian. So far these sauces have also been warmly received. What comes next? Only time will tell. At Teaspoon Willie’s, the goal is not merely to sell sauce, but rather to help people discover their inner chef and create a sense of community among those enjoying a meal together.
