REVIEW: Volcanic Peppers’ LAVA Chocolate Lightning hot sauce

I didn’t want to bore you with a video review of my own, when we all ready have 3 videos, but I did get a bottle of this hot sauce from Gunther’s Gourmet Gala in May and going to add my thoughts here. My first impressions were not positive. I got a lot of heat and smokiness I usually do not like in products. What I didn’t realize until I started to use it with food was that the heat part of this product was something I really liked. It hits hard, then just plateaus really fast in such a pleasant way. As you will hear in Ken Alexander’s review I passed the bottle around at Crabby Dicks seafood restaurant in Rehoboth Beach to a bunch of chileheads who were there for the Peppers at the Beach show. I almost lost the bottle because once it started to pass around it made its way through several tables and then back around again. As people found out this sauce was pretty good on fried food, whether it was crab cake balls, fried mushrooms, fried shrimp, hush puppies, etc. I took it home and had it with mashed potatoes and some other different applications and liked it quite a bit, especially that amazing burn. I am still not gung ho on the smokey aspect, but this hot sauce definitely will make me keep an open mind in the future. For those people that want flavor, smokiness and a great heat level burn, then I think you will like this hot sauce a lot. I will give this hot sauce 3 1/2 Flaming Hearts. The Volcanic Pepper LAVA product line also consists of some really really tasty BBQ sauces. We also did a review on the Volcano Dust 2 last year which you can view HERE.
