Fiber Joe interviews Jennifer from Louisiana’s All of Us Old Plantation Soups & Dips while at the infamous Fiery Food & BBQ Show in Albuquerque, New Mexico. They just don’t make soups and dips though as Fiber Joe finds out at the end of the interview. A lot of products on their website from soups and dips to pies and breads and a lot more. They are all prepared in bags with instructions on how to make these easy dishes at home. Follow Joe’s sampling as he tries their tasty soups.
A little about the company…
During the late 1980’s the farming business in Louisiana and nationwide began to go downhill. Equipment and fertilize prices steadily rose while crop prices seemed to steadily fall. Like so many other small farmers, our farm went under, and soon would have carried along with it our home, much of our property, and many of our hopes and dreams. Faced with enormous debt and little hope of a farming recovery, we turned our focus in a different direction: towards the dinner tables of everyday America.
One thing that our family has always been good at is cooking. Something that we’re even better at is eating, but that is another story. We put our heads together and created six different dip mixes and four soups that we thought would satisfy customers who sought not only a meal in a hurry, but a good meal not full of the corn starch and filler that were jam-packed into the mixes we had seen and used. At that time we knew that our products were good and the only way to keep them that way was to be involved and accountable every step of the way. We promised ourselves that we would never compromise the quality of our product for the sake of the bottom line. Each bag of Old Plantation Soup is poured up one bag at a time, one scoop at a time. We don’t use fancy machinery or sophisticated gadgets to blend our mixes. We use a measuring scoop, lots of bowls, and plenty of elbow grease. Every bag is sealed by hand and every bag is labeled by hand. This way, we know what goes in and most importantly what comes out as the finished product.
That was more than twenty years ago, and those dark days seem far behind. Today our catalog has expanded to seventeen different dips, twenty-five different soups, three different pies, and a full line of bread and cobbler mixes. Our success can be found in the thousands of satisfied customers who have seen fit to bring us into their homes by purchasing our products. With the help of people like you, we kept our home, expanded our hopes and reawakened a sense of pride only gained by providing others with something they truly love. Our family is a big one and as such, we have prided ourselves on providing a true meal to American families. We make soup in quarts not in cups. We give you the highest quality ingredients at a reasonable price, and in return you have given us purpose. These recipes are our own, picked from the cotton fields of our home, shipped directly to your kitchen.
From the heart of the Louisiana delta, my family has taken pride in providing what many feel are the finest line of gourmet soups and dips in the country. For over ten years we have painstakingly created and maintained a catalog of products that represent more than just another soup, they represent us. We look forward to serving you in the years to come. Welcome to Old Plantation.
