REVIEW: Feisty Parrot – El Jefe

El Jefe

Feisty Parrot was created, is owned and operated by a husband and wife team, David and Tracey Gunn, spearheaded by a cantankerous macaw and his two fickle sidekicks!

Both David and Tracey have a passion for the creative, cooking being one of these. David has enjoyed a lifetime love affair with all things spicy, the hotter the better. In fact what would bring normal human beings to their knees is merely just a satisfyingly slight tingle for David!

He has always tinkered with making all natural hot sauces using fresh peppers . After a trip to Cayman in 2010 where he discovered ghost pepper chicken wings, and never having met a pepper before that made his eyes go bloodshot, he became obsessed with adding superhots to his grow list and making hot sauces out of them.

Whilst looking for a job in April 2013, Dave decided to bottle his ghost/ scorpion hot sauce (now known as Savage Beast), put his business card on the bottle and hand it out to potential leads. At the same time Tracey complained that the Savage Beast was too hot for her, being a nice husband, Dave indulged her ‘Pansy like tolerance’ and they went back into the kitchen to develop what is now known as Demented Canary.

REVIEW: Firefood – Inferno Trinidad Scorpion Tomato Sauce

Product Line

“This stuff is hurt ya hot,” J-Bru says in his review. I got a nice chuckle at that. We have done 3 reviews for the company simply named, Firefood over the last 3 weeks, and the heat has steadily increased in each of their products. This tomato sauce as you can see has fresh Trinidad Scorpion chile peppers, and it is certainly bringing the heat to our review team. Is it too much heat? We shall tell you in their videos. Our review team consists of Ken Alexander, Jacob Robertson, and J-Bru aka Josh Bruner. This will be Josh’s last review for ILoveItSpicy as he is moving on to do bigger and better things. In his short time with ILIS, Josh has brought a nice take on the products he reviews. I just love the way he adds in small pics representing each and every ingredient as he reads them off. He will be missed, and will be welcome back with open arms if he ever chooses to do so. Good luck J-Bru!

I would also like to thank Elaine from Firefood for letting us highlight her products on ILIS and give our candid take on them. It looks like you are bringing some uniqueness to the community with products that aren’t presently there as far as I know. You can see the list of their product line, and the spicy panko crumbs is definitely something I have never seen before. Kudos to you for that. I wish you the very best with Firefood, and much success to you from here on out.

REVIEW: Smoke Canyon – Smoke Roasted Jalapeño Sauce

Smoke Canyon - Smoke Roasted Jalapeno Sauce

2012 Winner of THE HOT PEPPER Awards Best Hot Sauce of the Year, Named Best Product for 2012 on ScottRobertsweb.com and listed on the 2012 best hot sauces of the year on HotSauceDaily.com. It looks like you do not get on a “best of” list of 3 spicy product review websites without having a very good product, and winning the prestigious Hot Pepper Award is one thing, but Best Hot Sauce? Now that says a lot! Jay Abbey aka Jay-Bird, the man behind Smoke Canyon connected with me to setup one of our multiple person reviews to see if our own staff of spicy product lovers would concur with the above assessments. For this review our team consists of Wisconsin’s Heynetboy, Alabama’s Jacob Robertson and John Huber who hails from Buffalo, NY. We have a nice spread of regions, so this will really put this sauce to the test. Before we get to the review, let us learn a little about Smoke Canyon as taken from their website.

REVIEW: Xerarch’s Very Verde Green Sauce

Xerarch's Very Verde Green Sauce

Art “Xero” Weingaertner has been working with me in doing spicy product rules for a lot longer than ILoveItSpicy has existed. We have met a few times at the Fiery Food Show, and I consider him one of my Chilehead brothers. As a review, Xero knew I had one rule in regards to a product maker doing reviews with me, and that if they made it, they wouldn’t be reviewing it. So as a salsa and spice maker, I would never give Xero 1 review associated with these type of products. He knew that if he ever decided to throw his hat into the hot sauce arena, he would be very limited to ILoveItSpicy as a reviewer. Now with this new Very Verde Green Sauce, Xero will no longer be doing many reviews with ILIS from this point forward. While it is sad to limit him to just our snack and spicy BBQ sauce reviews, I am happy that he is living his dream and not looking back. Xerarch’s Nice N Hot Salsa was named Best Salsa in New Mexico by New Mexico Magazine in 2010, and I listed it as one of my favorite salsas of all time. So I have high hopes for Xerarch’s new hot sauce.

REVIEW: Palmetto Pepper Potions – Larynx Lava & Molten Golden

Larynx LavaMolten Golden

I am combining the last 2 reviews with Palmetto Pepper Potions as they are both solo reviews. I have never been a fan of solo reviews for one reason, and that is if the reviewer doesn’t like the product then there is no other voice we can turn to other than the maker who is trying to defend their product. I trust my reviewers, I just like the support system the multiple review has built in. With that said, the last 2 reviews we did for Palmetto Pepper Potions had 2 reviewers attached to them. In the first review we had Dale Gilbert and Derrick Wood reviewing the Daily Red. Then in review #2 we turned to Jacob Robertson and Dale Gilbert for their Trenholm Venom. For these reviews we have Derrick Wood reviewing the Larynx Lava and Jacob Robertson with their Molten Golden.

REVIEW: Palmetto Pepper Potions – Trenholm Venom hot sauce

Trenholm Venom

This is our 2nd of 4 product reviews for Palmetto Pepper Potions. The first review was for their Daily Red hot sauce which was reviewed by Dale Gilbert and Derrick Wood and can be seen HERE. This review we have Dale again and his cohort is Jacob Robertson.
A little about this sauce as taken from their website:

REVIEW: Palmetto Pepper Potions – Daily Red hot sauce

This is not going to be like our usual 3 person reviews, although we have 3 reviewers setup for the Palmetto Potions’ reviews. We have 4 of the Palmetto Pepper Potions that were sent out to us from Reid Edgar of SnazzyGourmet.com who sells their products. He wanted people new to the world of hot sauce to hear about a multiple award winning company dating back to 2005. Not a long time for most of us, but since the love of fiery foods has grown by leaps and bounds in popularity over the last few years Reid thought it would be a good idea to re-introduce people to Palmetto Pepper Potions. Creators Mark and Julie Riffle have earned 12 international awards in the world’s top fiery foods competitions in both the Golden Chile and Scovie awards. What makes this review different is that we spread out the 4 potions if you will to 3 of our reviewers. Daily Red in this review will be done by Derrick Wood and Dale Gilbert. In the next one, Trenholm Venom, we have Jacob Robertson and again with Dale Gilbert. The 3rd and 4th review we have Derrick with the Larynx Lave and Jacob with the Molten Golden. Why only one? Well, these are their 2 big award winners and I think confidence in these two sauces was high enough to go with just the 1 reviewer. Not the way we usually do things, but I didn’t make that call, so hopefully our review team with live up to their confidence. Before we get to the review, let us tell you a little about these potion makers.

REVIEW: High Octane Sauce Company – JP5 Moruga Scorpion Pepper Sauce

This is our 2nd and last review for the High Octane Sauce Company out of Texas. They are using the Trinidad Moruga Scorpion pepper which is presently the world’s hottest chile pepper. In our last review we gave feedback for their Hybrid Green Pepper Sauce which got a pretty decent review from our team scoring two 3 1/2’s and one 3 flaming hearts out of 5. Will this extra hot pepper sauce do as well? One way to find out folks, watch! Our review team once again is John Huber, Steve “The Machine” Smallwood, and Jacob Robertson. I wish Kevin Billings of High Octane Sauce Company the very best in their success for his young company. Things are all ready looking bright. Happy Turkey Day Weekend everyone, and start off your Black Friday with some good hot sauce here at High Octane.

REVIEW: High Octane Sauce Company – Hybrid Green Pepper Sauce

Sometimes it is the ingredients that on face value seem like the makings of a good all around sauce. With roasted poblano, jalapeno and serrano chile peppers blended with herbs, spices and a touch of lime, you are off to a fast start. Introducing the Hybrid Green Pepper Sauce from the High Octane Sauce Company. I met the creator and owner behind the sauces, Kevin Billings at the Houston Hot Sauce Festival in September. His Tire Smokin’ Salsa tied for 1st place out of 58 salsas in Houston, and because we can only have 1 winner, it garnered 2nd place in the tiebreaker. Quite an accomplishment considering salsa were shipped in from all over the US for this contest. With that said, things are looking up for Kevin and his company. We will have another sauce to review next week from High Octane, so look for that as well all you Moruga Scorpion fans.
