REVIEW: Sweet Heat Gourmet – Moruga Scorpion Hot Sauce

Moruga Scorpion Hot Sauce

This is our 3rd and last review for Sweat Heat Gourmet. They have done pretty well for themselves thus for in the 1st two reviews. They received 4 flaming hearts from 5 out of the 6 reviews, and the other one received 3 1/2 flaming hearts. Not too bad of a start. Now this here hot sauce is using what many consider to be the uncrowned hottest pepper in the world, the Moruga Scorpion, measuring over a whopping 2 million scoville units. The ghost pepper that was once the champ was only a little over 1 million. How will our brave team of reviewers handle this hot sauce? Well I will tell you this about the hot sauce, it is tomato-based and seems to be created with flavor in mind and not solely about destroying anyone. I like to think that if more hot sauce companies kept that in mind, then there would be a lot more tasty Moruga Scorpion products out there than there are. Our review team consists of Dale Gilbert, Don Lava, and Revtommy2tone and he is back with his co-pilot Rick Averyt.

REVIEW: Hellfire Hot Sauce – Devil’s Gold

Devil's Gold label

Hellfire’s Devil’s Gold won a 1st place Screaming Mi Mi Award at the 1st ever NYC Hot Sauce Expo for the Fruit Based Hot Sauce category. Not a bad way to start off with a limited edition hot sauce. For those that have not followed us last year, we have year end awards called the Lenny Awards. Hellfire Hot Sauce won for best product line for their reviews for 4 of their products – Evil Bastard, Devil’s Blend, Pure Hell and their Blueberry Hell. So I imagine they are looking to recreate the magic with 4 more hot sauces. This is the first, and we will post the other 3 hot sauces over the next 3 weeks. For these reviews we have Steve “The Machine” Smallwood out of Ohio, Ryan Graub from Missouri, and Steve Chambers from Maryland.

REVIEW: Heartbreaking Dawns – Strawberry Trail Preserves

With Black Friday here I wanted to put up a review for my friend Johnny McLaughlin and to share this review with my audience because I personally think this is one of the better preserves out there to be had. In 2010, I created the Lenny Awards in memory of my departed Father and to reward best products of the year. I presented Heartbreaking Dawns(HBD), one for their Fiery Trail Preserves, presently my favorite product they make. Later Johnny followed that up with a very tasty datil pepper and mango preserve. To complete the trio he has introduced this strawberry one. This preserve is mixed with the world’s hottest pepper, the Trinidad Moruga Scorpion, but it is a good mix that will bring out the flavor of the pepper and not too much of the heat you would expect. It is an enjoyable burn with a flavorful mix of fruit (strawberries and cranberries) that you will come back to again and again.

Moruga is not just a very hot pepper, its a place

For those who do not know it, the district of Moruga is a sovereign state which lies on the central south coast of Trinidad at the western end of the Trinity Hills. The village is close to Trinidad’s oil reserves, and that and fishing are the area’s main economies. The people are also proud to be in the recent news this past year with some of the huge record breaking hottest chile pepper announcements.
