We are back again for another exciting comfort food showdown. This weekRead more
We have our next combatants in what might be a very close battle. You have your classic crunchy side item, fried, beer battered big, small, whatever you might find the most pleasing. Do you dunk your onion rings or just munch on them? With a burger, on a burger? Then the other side we have an entree that is the staple for the Baltimore region and some would say it’s reach has no bounds – The Crab Cake! Everyone has their own recipe, every restaurant serves it up in their own way. Some places have mini-versions to pop right into your mouth. With Old Bay or without Old Bay? This cake is in no way shape or form, a dessert, but people will go out of their way for some popular restaurant version. Can you say the same for Onion Rings? I have never started a restaurant discussion with, “I am in the mood for onion rings, where should we go?” Yet, if you find a really good onion ring that hits the spot, you might feel like you found the comfort in this food which is what this tournament is all about.
So this battle is about…Read more
We kick off the CFS Tourney with a dessert battle. Who does not love a good cookie now and then? Perhaps the most popular cookie ever created is the chocolate chip cookie. Warm from the oven or the cookie dough beforehand this icon sweet might be the easiest dessert to find in any grocery store. So many different versions and recipes, but who is to judge which is the best when people make them at home. Then we have the Autumn classic, pumpkin pie. A staple on Thanksgiving and a hit during Halloween after the jack-o-lanterns are carved. A dollop of whipped cream after the holiday meal and people will happily go into a food coma afterwards. Tis the season or is it? We shall find out…Read more
Before we begin the tournament to crown the all time comfort food, at least for 2018, we will have a qualification round. The winner will take the #16 slot vs #1 Pizza. Sure that might seem like a mountain-like task for these 2 culinary icons, but only time will tell how these fare. First we have theRead more
We did this interactive poll tournament back in 2011-12, and it was a lot of fun. We have 64 comfort foods to be determined via a poll in the main tournament. There will be a qualifying round which will pit Pho vs Fondue to see who gets the last spot. It will be a bit of practice for me, since it has been a very long time since I posted anything here. I just want to work out the kinks before we go to the main tournament votes. I think I will post each round with a corresponding poll each Sunday morning (Eastern Standard Time) before football kicks off. The poll will go 2-3 days depending on whether I close it promptly or not. The results will be seen once the poll is officially closed. So if you comeback you will be able to see how it went. This will be something I will post each week, and let it play out until a champion is declared. Remember to support your favorites or make sure the food you despise does not win. You know what happens when you leave the decision up to others? Anything can happen!Read more
Welcome to the 8th Annual Lenny Awards for the best new spicy products. The Lenny Award is named after my Father who died of Cancer on this very day back in 2010. Rather than mourn his death, I am here to celebrate his life and how he would help total strangers in need just because he could. I am trying to do the same with the Lenny Award by giving something from my heart to an industry and community that I love. The Lenny is given to my favorite new products and there is no other factor involved in my choice. I don’t get a chance to try everything in due time, so some of these products might be older than 2017 when I first got a chance to try them. I have listed the names of the companies below the video that either received a Lenny Award or got an honorable mention. If you do not want to view that spoiler list, go watch the video and enjoy the moment there.
The Lenny Awards have not been purchased yet, as I will need some of the addresses of the companies I will not see at the NYC Hot Sauce Expo come April. Those companies that attend that great event will have them presented by me in person. Those that do not, will get them mailed directly to whatever address you provide me with. The video is long as I ramble a lot and I try to give each product I mention their due. The addresses below are there for a reason. I hope you will give some thought into purchasing a few of these winners. I think you will be pleasantly surprised. Besides, it is the holiday season and some of these fine artisan products might still be on sale.
Thank you for your time and congratulations to all the fiery product makers for making such flavorful and delicious food enhancements.Read more

If you have ever went to a football game, whether it be college or the NFL, you just do not go for the game. You go for the whole entertainment package. You go for the tailgating experience hours before. You go to be with friends and/or family. You go for the entertainment that the stadium brings, whether it be the halftime show, the cheerleaders, the horns and whistles of the home team getting the fans ramped up in every way, shape and form. This is the game day experience. When I go to the NYC Hot Expo, I go for the whole enchilada. This Saturday and Sunday, April 22-23, 2017, I come for the party.Read more
How we started
Founded in 2007, Alamo Peppers is locally owned, and operated in San Antonio, TX. Husband and wife team, Mark and Kathy Rodriguez possess a passion, and desire for the highest quality of food, flavor, and taste. And of course, heat! Alamo Peppers began creating our truly unique and flavorful seasoning blends, with our love of exotic, and hard to find chiles. Taste our difference, and you be the judge.
The Birth of Fri-B-Que..
The Land of Enchantment is known for many things; including its scenic landscapes and beautiful sunsets, but from a culinary standpoint, New Mexico is best know for its red and green chili crops. No adventure in New Mexico is complete until you have experienced our cuisine. Unlike any other, it is a mosaic blend of flavors from Spanish and Native American cultures that has been perfected over the course of 400 years.Read more
