3rd Annual Chilehead Secret Santa

Buddah's Secret Santaberg Spicy Gift Exchange

I am getting a very late start on this thing this year. After this past Summer’s turmoil I thought I would just bow out of organizing this again, but after my trip to Houston and New Orleans, I felt a lot of love and wanted to bring some to my great Chilehead community. In the spirit of giving, I present you the Chilehead version of Secret Santa. It is a holiday spicy gift exchange between people in our Facebook group: Chileheads. If you wish to be a part of this, then I ask you to send me an email at al******@ya***.com with the subject line “2013 Secret Santa” and you must include your mailing address. Also so people can see that you are part of it, add your name to the posting in the Facebook group as well as below in the comments. I will pin the Facebook posting to the top of the page for a while.

How does it work? Well, I, with assistance from my little helper, will randomly assign people to a Secret Santa, and you will receive an email before Thanksgiving with the person you are to get a gift for. The gift must be $25 or more(not including shipping and handling), with the more being whatever your little heart desires. I have learned that some people wish to give more, and there is nothing you can do to stop them from doing so. Times are tough for everyone, so if $25 is a bit too high, I am sorry if this will exclude you from this festive display.

Deadline to join in is by 11:59pm est on Friday November 22nd, giving everyone 2 weeks of time to join up and get gifts. Some general rules about the gift…

Rules:
1- All items must be chile-related in some way. It can be food, sauces, seasonings, decorative, engraved, or any other way that can be best described as made for a chilehead. The gift can be self-made. Yes, if you are a maker, you can send your own goods and/or services;
2- The gift must be sent to arrive prior to the Christmas holiday of Dec 25. For those celebrating other holidays, please state as much in your email to me. Hanukkah starts Nov 28 and ends on Dec 5th, and Kwanzaa is celebrated from December 26 through January 1, 2014. December 25th is the due date for all gifts, but I will inform your Secret Santa if you celebrate a different holiday. Mail moves slow, so keep that in mind.
3- Since it is Secret Santa, you are not allowed to discuss who your selection is with the person you have. If you wish to fish for gift ideas from a friend or family member of theirs, then please be as discrete as you can;
4- Announce in the gift package who you are so the Secret Santa is revealed. This is not a grab bag, YOU MUST let the giftee know who you are so they can properly thank you;
5- Everyone’s finances are not the best, so keep that in mind when you receive your gift. Keep to the spirit of the holidays and be warm hearted even if you do not like it. Please share a picture of your gift with the Chileheads group or on here on the holiday thread I will put up for X-Mas.
6- I am also going to ask that if you have any allergies or food dietary restrictions, to please announce them ahead of time in your email to me, so whomever picks you knows what not to send;
7- Lastly, please do me this one favor, and if you wish to be in this, please add your name to this thread for easy reference as well as the Facebook group. The Facebook group might disappear eventually, but we will have this to refer back to if need be. I will have another post once we pick all the names.

I hope no matter who you end up with, you will treat their gift as you would a family member with the spirit of the holidays. Do not ask for another Secret Santa because you do not know the person or dislike them in anyway. This is your chance to show what kind of person YOU are, so embrace it and rise above. Thank you all, and may your holiday season be a very happy and memorable one. Thanks to DK for making the original picture above before I butchered it with my Photoshop technique.
